40 days of intense, holistic training

What is GLDI?

About fifteen years ago, Dr. John C. Kim had a vision to create an environment where students would have the opportunity to develop into Spirit-filled, competent, powerful and transforming ambassadors for changing the nation and the world for Christ. This vision came into fulfillment during the summer of 2007 when 96 Korean-American students from across the nation came together to attend the first Global Leadership Development Institute (GLDI) on the campus of Vanguard University of Southern California in Costa Mesa, CA. In its second year, GLDI opened up admission to a few qualified international students of Korean descent.

At GLDI, students are pushed and challenged both spiritually and physically to meet the demands of a rigorous schedule for 40 days. Here is the daily schedule at a glance: morning exercises at 6 AM, devotionals, breakfast, praise and worship, biblical exposition, morning lecture, lunch, personal time  (for journaling, Bible reading, and assignments), afternoon session, dinner, evening session, and then finally “family” reflection (where students discuss and pray with their dorm mates as they reflect upon the lectures, challenges and struggles throughout the day). Students are also required to read the Bible and turn in reading assignments.

Forty days are broken down into six weeks, each week having a theme. Students are challenged in their personal transformation; learn about biblical truth and how to defend their worldview; gain insight on how to practically maintain relationships, learn how to use their time and be good stewards of their money; understand what it means to daily live out their calling and career; are taught the meaning of Christ-like servant leadership and how to reach the community and the world for Christ. In the past two years students have had the opportunity to learn from some of the great teachers, leaders, thinkers, and pastors of our time, including Dr. Os Guinness, Dr. Loren Cunningham, Dr. John C. Kim, and Rev. Erwin McManus.
